Unable to detect a newly atttached scsi device without rebooting the server(DL380)

i use a DL380 Proliant with windows2003
The DLT Tape drive is not detected by the server unless it is turned on during the POST.
so i need to reboot the server before i can use the tape drive or keep the tape drive always ON.
"Add New Hardware" or "Device Manager Refresh" do not help, it seems that they are not capable of scanning the SCSI bus for changes.

A DLT drive will require a POST Scan for proper termination. If the drive is not "on" prior to POST, it may not be detected on the SCSI chain even with a scan reset.

Be sure to use the latest driver for the controller:

Re: Unable to detect a newly atttached scsi device without rebooting the server(DL380)

thank you john
but i think it is not the DLT drive which need the POST it is the server.
becouse i can use the same tape drive with same OS on a regular PC with an Adaptec 2940UW adapter and I dont have such limitations.
i can connect the drive, make a hardware scan and use it without the need to reboot the system.
this problem only occours with DL380.
can u suggest any changes in the configuration?

Re: Unable to detect a newly atttached scsi device without rebooting the server(DL380)

You have the drive attached to the external port of the 5i controller, yes? or no?

If yes, you are in effect running the tape device on a RAID controller. This is a diferent driver.

I like to run tape drives on their own controller anyway but I make it a practice to have all other devices "on" prior to the server POST.
Enjoy!
