Update Blade BIOS without OS through SUM
Hello,
I am wondering if is possible to update the BIOS of a collection of Blades through the Smart Update Manager (SUM) if there is no O.S. installed on the blades. If I add the blades to SUM as iLO node I can update only the iLO.
Cheers!

Re: Update Blade BIOS without OS through SUM
But you can boot the SPP to upgrade the formware, e.g. you can use enclosure firmware management.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Update Blade BIOS without OS through SUM
Hi Torsten,
Yes, but I have 64 old Blades chassis (no O.S. yet) to upgrade and I would like to do it in a centralized way. Since SUM is able to do this quite quickly with the iLO upgrade and the Control Plane upgrade, I was wondering if the same can be done with the BIOS/Firmware of the blades.
Cheers

Re: Update Blade BIOS without OS through SUM
For "older" blades SUM needs a running OS as a target, so you can either boot SPP or use (customized) SPP in order to run EFM - enclosure firmware management), which is in fact booting SPP for each blade in an automated way.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.
