Hello
I have an DL180gen9 with the integrated Smart Array b140i Software RAID Controller.
I have 5 x 4TB SATA Disks in one big Array (RAID 5), with two Partitions (one with 100GB for the System, the rest is for Data from our Backups).
As this controller is not capable of expanding (which is what I need) an existing Array I'm searching for an alternative.
My question ist now:
- Can I upgrade my DL180gen to the P440/4GB (726821-B21) or P440/2GB (820834-B21)?
- Can I do this upgrade and migrate the existing Array from the B140i to the new Controller without Data loss, even if the System C:/ (Boot Partition) is in the same Array? Will the System be still be bootable in UEFI Mode as it is now?
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks in Advance,
Stefan

SolutionFrom quickspec of B140i:
...Support for migration of drives to P-Series controllers...
Shutdown, install new controller, boot and install drivers, shutdown again and swap the internal cable.
Finally consider to disable the B140i in BIOS.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Upgrade B140i to P440/4GB, retain Array?
Hello Torsten
Thanks for the fast information!
I'm still a bit confused about the controller Series, which one would I need for my belongings with SATA Disks:
726736-B21 HP Smart Array P440AR/2GB or 726821-B21 HP Smart Array P440/4G ?
Also is the Cabling Kit (783007-B21 Cable Kit SAS P840/440) and the Battery (727258-B21) always the same ?
Thanks for clarification...!
Regards
Stefan

NOTE: One of the above cables is required to be selected depending on the combination of chassis and storage controller. Cable option kit descriptions include the right chassis and storage controllers names.
NOTE: FIO indicates that this option is only available as a factory installable option. Please select FIO option if you want the option to be factory installed.
NOTE: NHPE server chassis (Mod-x) includes SATA cables required to connect drives to embedded B140i SATA controller.
Optional Upgrades
HP 96W Smart Storage Battery with 145mm Cable for DL/ML/SL Servers
NOTE: This option is mandatorily required with HPE Smart Array controllers. One server can accommodate only 1 Smart Storage Battery that would suffice the requirement of all HPE Smart Array controllers.
