Upgrade DL140 G3 to run 5150

I have a DL140 G3 with a 5050 installed. I want to install 5150. I understand there has been a revision to this board (I have upgraded the BIOS), how do I make sure that my revision of the board will support the 5150 CPU.

Re: Upgrade DL140 G3 to run 5150

hi m

according with System BIOS history latest Intel Xeon Processor are supported since: Version: 1.14 (2007.08.13) (A) (17 Aug 2007)
you can check revision history here

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=15351&prodSeriesId=1842838&swItem=MTX-7e0c9b89ff304cf89d25a8729f&prodNameId=3285485&swEnvOID=1005&swLang=8&taskId=135&mode=5

so you are good since you have the latest
1.17 (2008.07.17) (A) (25 Jul 2008)

something I found was this for the latest System ROM version (in release notes)
"IMPORTANT: When upgrading to BIOS version 1.17 (2008.07.17) HP strongly suggests that the BMC version 2.21 is also installed on the system in order for proper server operation."

so here the link for 100i management processor

Re: Upgrade DL140 G3 to run 5150

I understand the BIOS issues completely and have installed the BIOS V1.17 that supports the 5150. My concern is whether this board which is a very early DL140 G3 (667 MHz FSB) is capable of 1333MHz FSB, eg any supporting chips limitations that may have changed in subsequent revisions of the actual board hardware (firmware revisions to one side)

Re: Upgrade DL140 G3 to run 5150

yes I got it

but the point is the idea of System ROM updates is to have no matter which System Board revision supports any new Hardware like new processors...

there is not documentation that says "System board revision XXX does not support this processor" no there is not something like that unless you can get a new system board along with processors which could be not very good idea (expensive one) and even getting a new system board won't assure you it will have latest revision.... that why all manufactures have System ROM updates
