Upgrade DL380 G3 -> DL380 G4

Hi, we want to upgrade some of our DL380 G3 servers to G4.
Is it possible to migrate an existing Windows (2000 or 2003) installation from old to new hardware by simply removing the discs from the G3 server and inserting them into the G4 server? It'll probably be mandatory to re-install the HP Support Pack from the Smartstart CD ofcourse, but our main question is whether or not the OS will actually boot (without BSOD).

Thanks in advance for any replies!

Never know BSOD still can happened, however you should experience less problem if latest SCSI driver and all your Hard Drives are U320, as physically you can Plug only U320 HDD

Previously there was reports with Blue Screen when you move from 5i to 6i, along they use same Driver, by now that should be solved with latest 5x 6x Driver.
G4 server accept only U320 Hard Drives and 64/133 PCI cards - guidance

Anthony:

I have done this several time, even going from G2 to G4 is possible.

There is a registry entry which you need to import into the box before you move your drives or take an image for re-deployment.

The entry tells the system about the 6i controller as the drivers are not enough.

You will need to reboot 1 or 2 times as after you swap the drives or deploy the image, Windows will find some new devices and need to load drivers for them.

Let me find the reg entry and I will post it.
