Upgrade DL380 G5 Xeon 5080 to quad core E54xx

Can I replace the Xeon 5080's in my DL380 G5 with quad core E54xx CPUs?

If yea, what needs to be replaced. Can I just swap CPUs or do I need a whole kit of power regulator module and heatsink.

If E54xx is not supported, are E53xx, E52xx, or E51xx?

Yes, you can. But you need a different system board. Since the system board that you have only supports 50XX and 51XX processors. You need the system board part number 436526-001, wich support 53xx and 540xx processors. You also need to have the latest BIOS updated.

Where is the part number located on the system board?

Were all the 5080 based systems using the board that supports only 50xx and 51xx CPU's or were some able to run all of them, including 53xx and 54xx? Thanks!

The system board part number that you might have is 407749-001 (System board with processor cage and battery, supporting Intel Xeon 50xx and 51xx processors), the system board part number that you need is 436526-001 (System board with processor cage and battery, supporting Intel Xeon 53xx processors) for the Proliant Server DL380 G5. The 54xx Processor is not going to work on this system board. This is only for 50xx and 51xx Processors.
