Upgrading DL585 to dualcore

Hi All,
We're upgrading some DL585 servers from Opteron 852 singlecore to Opteron 880 dualcore.

We found that cpus with partnumber OST880FAA6CC are currectly working but with cpus OSA880FAA6CC
the server gave us processor unsupported .

AMD told us that the CPUs are the same.

Any suggest?

Re: Upgrading DL585 to dualcore

What is the part number of the 880 you have got there?

Apparently there are 2 options --- you are upgrading from 852 so I guess you actually need 397843-B21 (8 DIMM PC2700).

If you only have 4 banks (397844-B21) then I would think you simply need to upgrade the RAM modules to PC3200....

Have you also flashed your server's ROM?

We are using PC3200 dimm and memory board.

Re: Upgrading DL585 to dualcore

This error can happen on any Proliant server when installing a processor that the bios doesn't have support built in to it for any particular processor. This can happening for the same type of processor, but with different steppings.

The first thing I'd recommend would be to flash the bios to the latest version.
The truth is out there, but I forgot the URL..

Re: Upgrading DL585 to dualcore

AMD told us that OST880 and OSA880 are exactly the same CPUs.
OST are OEM for HP.

It seems that intentionally HP BIOS does recognize only CPU bought from HP ...
