Upgrading PII 400mhz to PIII 450mhz on Proliant 1600

I have been reading that to upgrade a Proliant from a PII 400mhz to PIII 450mhz installation of an additional Thermal Upgrade Option Kit (144003-B22) is required. I have looked but cannot find any information about how to install or even what this kit consist of. Also will VRMS 299306-001 work to run 2 PIII?

Thanks

Hello Gwalker,
The correct p/n for the VRM for PIII450 is :

Processor Power Module (350- 450): 327660-001

The thermal kit is basically a few thermal pads and usually a little sheet is sent with it to let you know where to stick them.

I saw an earlier post in this forum about a PDF file that was available for installing the Thermal grade option kit. Is that file still available? I already purchased a pair of 299306-001 vrm, and I was hoping to use them. Thanks again

Re: Upgrading PII 400mhz to PIII 450mhz on Proliant 1600

Hello Gwalker,
Please make sure that you run the System configuration after you upgrade the hardware. Here is the link to download it in case you need this:

http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/13227.html

Basically anytime a hardware change takes place you need to run this utility to make sure that system has all the components configured properly.
