Upgrading a DL350 G2

I have a DL350 G2. I want to add a processor and more memory. Once I do this, will I have to install new software or reinstall windows server?

Re: Upgrading a DL350 G2

There are a multitude of "windows server" versions. You didn't indicate any specifics so generally speaking:

Depends on the version of O/S you're using.

There are different kernels for single and multi-processor configured systems.

Also it depends upon how much memory you want to address and the version of Windows you're running. Some 32-bit versions have issues with anything over 4GB.

Re: Upgrading a DL350 G2

apart from the remarks in the previous post :

A reinstallation is in many cases not neccessary.

if the first processor allready is a hyper-treading processor then windows included multiprocessor support during installation.
So adding an extra processor makes no difference from the OS pont-of-view.

If it was not, depending on the windows-version you may need a single-to-multipcosessor utility to configure windows to use both processors.

It's allways a good idea to have a recent backup at hand before doing this.

Re: Upgrading a DL350 G2

Thanks for the help. I'm currently running Windows server 2000. After reading your post, I added the new processor and turned it back on. No problems. Thanks again.
