Re: Upgrading disks on existing RAID5

first of all, thanks to all of you for the great feedback!

Steven - the server has one disk array, with 2 logical drives, one for boot/os and another one for data.

I'm trying to cleanup the mess I inherited :)

thanks

Re: Upgrading disks on existing RAID5

Sounds like your in perfect condition to use the free utility, unless of course your looking to expand your C: drive.

If you just want to expand your data drive, swap the disks... once t hey are alll swapped you will have the free space available to extend your logical drive. Once you extend it to where you want it, in Windows (Yes, i never did ask what OS so i am assuming here..) Disk Management, you should see your data drive and the original partition as well as some "Free space" at the end.

Disk Part info... http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;325590

Basically with diskpart...(it drops you into a shell sorta like ftp or telnet)

you run...

LIST VOLUME --> shows a listing of selectable volumes
SELECT VOLUME --> selects the volume you want to extend
EXTEND --> extends the partition on the fly

Good to hear. Let us know how things go and/or if you have any other issues.
