Upgrading servers.
Is it possible to do so ?
What about the RAM and HD's ? Can I pull them out from the 1600 and put them in the 3000 ?
Please keep in mind that there is nothing in the P3000, I already took the processor, the RAMs and HDs out to upgrade another P3000.
Thanks,
G.

Re: Upgrading servers.
You can install following cpu`s from 1600 to 3000.
Processor, 500/100 MHz
Processor, 550/100 MHz
Processor, 600/100 MHz
You can install the memory, all are compatable.
Pl-3000 having a Integrated Dual Channel Wide-Ultra SCSI-3 controller.
I don`t which scsi hard disk you have in Pl 1600.

George

Re: Upgrading servers.
George, I don't quite understand what you mean by "Processor 500/100 MHz", the 2 CPU I have are PII 400Mhz.
RAMs are 512MB 100MHz.
SCSI HDs are 1" 9.1 GB.
I have 2 spare HDs that I can try; just want to make sure that it will not damage the CPUs ;-)
Thanks again.

Re: Upgrading servers.
I cannot switch off the P3000 till the weekend, so I won't be able to tell you the CPU's part number yet.
I've found some diagrams on the sides of the computer case in which it shows you how to change the jumper settings for different CPU speed, varying from 350/100 to 650/100.
Anyway, I cannot take the risk bringing down 2 servers to have 3 "dead" boxes yet so I'll do this some other time when the spare box arrives.
Thanks for all your help.

Re: Upgrading servers.
This will help you decide i guess.
Proliant 1600 has two model
266/300MHz Pentium II
266/66 Processor with Heat Sink (ProLiant 1600 only) 333561-001
300/66 Processor with Heat Sink 315578-001
Processor Power Module 299306-001
------
350MHz to 600MHz Pentium II and III
350/100 MHz Pentium II Processor with Heatsink 313623-001
400/100 MHz Pentium II Processor with Heatsink 313624-001
450/100 MHz Pentium II Processor with Heatsink 179780-001
500 MHz Pentium III Processor with Heatsink 114525-001
550 MHz Pentium III Processor with Heatsink 144573-001
600 MHz Pentium III Processor with Heatsink 155592-001
And in Proliant 3000
Processor 6/333 W/Heat Sink 269686-001
Processor 300/66 MHz 269621-001
Processor, 450/100 MHz 179780-001
Processor, 400/100 MHz 313624-001
Processor, 500/100 MHz 114525-001
Processor, 550/100 MHz 144573-001
Processor, 600/100 MHz, 512 KB 155592-001
So posibility is there.. without any issues we will be able to work this out and use our server with procssors from P16000
Takre care.

Re: Upgrading servers.
You really want me to go with this heh ? ;)
I'll let you know the status in 2 weeks time. Gotta make sure I have proper backup and recovery plan.
Thanks again for the very detailed reply.
Much appreciated.
