Using SAS3444E (SAS1068E) on HP Proliant DL320 G6
Hi,
We are trying to get HP Proliant DL320 G6 to work with a SAS3444E LSI card. No success - the controller does not see the disks plugged into G6's backplane. The card has 4 SAS slots.
When we remove the backplane and connect the disks directly with SATA cables, everything works fine, so the card is good.
When we use the mini-SAS to SATA cable to connect a SATA disk to a P410 SAS controller, everything works fine again, so the cable is good. But whatever configuration we try to use the SAS disks with backplane and the SAS3444e, no disks are detected:
* Single SAS-SATA cable, 4 disks in the backplane (positions 1, 3, 5, 6), 4 cable ends in the SAS3444e, SAS end in BP socket 1
* Single SAS-SATA cable, 4 disks in the backplane (positions 1, 3, 5, 6), 4 cable ends in the SAS3444e, SAS end in BP socket 2
* Two SAS-SATA cables, 8 disks in the backplane, 2 (PO and P1) cable ends in the SAS3444e
Is HP's backplane incompatible with SAS-SATA connection or we're doing something wrong?

Re: Using SAS3444E (SAS1068E) on HP Proliant DL320 G6
This server by ships with HP Smart Array B110i SATA RAID Controller, which supports both SAS and SATA drives and so does the hard drive backplane.
Check if the cards is detected in during POST. Check if the card is installed in supported slot with respect to the PCIe connector on the system board and the card. Refer to section Standard Features > Expansion Slots in the server’s QuickSpecs, locatable at the following link:
http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/13344_div/13344_div.html
Furthermore refer to the following for general cable connection to supported HP SAS expander card for a general idea for connections.

For further assistance contact the card vendor.

Vijayasarathy
