VHDCI connector... are they for tape drives only? can't be...

the dilema...
i have a dl360 1u server and i am struggling making the connection i need. i need to connect to a raid box filled with 200gb ide drives externally i was thinking that i could use the vhdci connector out the back of the machine for this but i am returned an error on boot up. my question is.... is the vhdci connector only used for support of a external tape drive or should i be able to connect it to my raid array. i have installed (hopefully temporarily) a adaptec 29160 card with the external 68pin connector to connect to it but i am hoping to remove that and just use the vhdci connection.

thanks for any replies

Hi,
This connector (External VHDC) is officialy supported ONLY for external stand alone TAPEs. So you can't connect there for example tape library.
I tried to connect there enclosure 4314 with some hard drives and it worked but it is not supported. This enclosure has no inteligence build in so I think that you must based on this additional Adaptec controller to connect the Raid Box.
