VHDCI port on DL380 G3
I am running Windows 2000 server.
Any ideas on how I can get the system to recognise the new tape drive ?
Thanks in advance
Kevin

Re: VHDCI port on DL380 G3
the server has to SCSI channels - ohne for the six HDD - one for the extern VHDCI.
When you have the backplane split in 4 HDD and 2 HDD the both channel are for for HDDs and the extern SCSI Connector is not plugged to the system board.
None
(NOTE: The system can be operated in single channel (using either the embedded Smart Array 5i Plus controller or a PCI-based controller) or dual channel (with the first 2 drives on 1 channel, driven by the Smart Array 5i Plus controller and 4 drives driven by either the Smart Array 5i Plus or a PCI-based controller)).

Re: VHDCI port on DL380 G3
Even if you set the server into simplex mode to enable the VHDCI port on the back of the server, a Ultrium Tape Drive should NOT be attached to a Smart Array Controller but a SCSI adapter.
For more information on which SCSI adapter you should get please search for the model of the Ultrium drive and the designated SCSI controller at the following link:

Re: VHDCI port on DL380 G3
Use this matrix to find the correct model:

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: VHDCI port on DL380 G3
It is supported by HP but not recommend to connect on one Channel the HDD├В┬┤s and on the other channel a tape!
