Make sure the drivers for whatever card you get work with your OS. Once upon a time I put a video card in a proliant windows server and the install package gave an error saying the OS was not supported.
I can confirm I have installed one HD multiport nvidia card with pci e x8 on the riser board and worked ok. Very important: If the card is installed ok and also appears in the device manager as ok but the card not sending any signal to the monitor and the nvidia control panel doesn't work you need to enter BIOS and in video preferences set the installed/optional video card as primary over the embedded one (can even disable the embedded card). After this is done be patient at first start until the monitor starts showing something. Took me few hours of installing/updating drivers without needing it until I tried this priority setting.
