W2K8 32-bit setup pgm can't see SATA drives after driver load on HPDL165 G6
Have HP Dl165 G6 with Broadcom Serverworks SATA controller and Windows 2008 x64.
Because of software compatibility issue, want to reinstall with Windows 2008 32-bit version. I located the 32-bit Broadcom HT-1000 driver (bchtsw32) and burned it to a CD. When I run setup, the Windows 2008 setup program:
1. Tells me it can't find a hard drive (expected).
2. I load the CD and click 'load driver' and browse to the CD.
3. Windows recognizes the HT1000 32 bit driver as supported hardware. I click to select and Next.
4. Windows loads the driver, but then says 'setup can't find a hard drive'.
I went through the same sequence for the original 64-bit install and Broadcom 64-bit drivers and it found the drive immediately (just for fun, I tried loading the 64-bit drivers this time, but setup didn't recognize them).
I'm starting to think it has something to with the way the oem broadcom controller was configured when the DL165 G6 shipped (or am I attempting something impossible?).
Any suggestions?

Also check your BIOS version for the latest version (December 2009) to fix an SATA controller issue.
