Hi
I have a Proliant ML 110 G3 series intell processor 3GHZ ,1 g memory ram ,running windows server 2003 sp2 pack small business server 5 licenses kit (bought in nov 2006)
I use server to host our 4 web sites and an online game
I would like to install PHP and improve speed ,should I upgrade memory ,go with winders server 2008 ,change server
I am not an IT specialist ,more a self made lover and learner of computers and servers and still enjoying it at 61 years old
Any advice will be appreciated
Thank you all

Re: What can I do to upgrade-Improve HP Server Proliant ML 110 Generation 3 ?
Marc, I'm even older (just!). Is this a private setup? Certainly more RAM. I have an SBS 2008 running on a Proliant ML115G5 (8Gbyte RAM) for a charity who I volunteer for. You don't state any problems you're having but I would think the kit would suffice unless you're o the internet with those websites then I guess you have A/V, etc. running?

Re: What can I do to upgrade-Improve HP Server Proliant ML 110 Generation 3 ?
Hi Rodger
Nice to hear that you are so young and wise ,I appreciate your comments and decided to look into the whole question of memory .As I run windows server 2003 sbs and it is only in 32 bits format, I can upgrade to 4gb of memory .I have found a few retailers in the Us (I live in Canada near Montreal ) where I can purchase it and will go ahead and do so
I am really asking myself what would be the advantages of moving up to windows server 2008 if my only real needs are to host my web sites .the only difficulty I have is I have is not been able to install PHP on my server and therefore cannot use certain applications that I would like to run
It is a good feeling to write and to feel that someone out there is listening
Thank you so much

Re: What can I do to upgrade-Improve HP Server Proliant ML 110 Generation 3 ?
I came to Montreal on business some years ago. Have recently found relatives at a place called Waterloo near(!) you. Must be nice to be suggled between all those great lakes. Anyway I run windows 2008 in the context of SBS which has Exchange as well. They recommend *GByte RAM min. so look at the spec for running W2008. As long as you have updates I would not think it worth the expense unless you want the latest (I always find it tempting. I assume you are using inside your private network or is your website externally available?

Re: What can I do to upgrade-Improve HP Server Proliant ML 110 Generation 3 ?
Dear Rodger
Nice to hear you have relatives in Waterloo,Quebec ,located 60km south of Montreal ,in the Eastern Townships, such a besutiful area
My wife and I lived close by for 10 years ...in Dunham ,near a small lake
Well since your reply I spent time doing research writing to Hp support for technical info where I bought server and also making an inventory of my server physical structure and my projects
I run windows server 2003 SBS sp2 standard edition .It is in 32 bit format and I cannot go beyond 4 Gb of ram . I run 4 web sites that are public and would like to install php applications
I just seem to not be able to do so and will most likely have to upgrade to a new version
So this is where I am and your info has allowed me to continue my evaluation
Upgrade ,buy ram ,change to web server ,...
I am registered in HP course Windows sever 2008 to see if it meets my need and if it worth it considering my activities
Thank you and I will pursue my investigation
