What is PPM/VRM and cooler for ML350 G4p

Hello,
I want pruchase a second processor for a Proliant ML350 G4p
The first processor is a Xeon 3.0 Ghz, Paxville.

The full processor kit (382184-B21) seem out of stock (at least in France and europa)

Another option is probably purchase separately the VRM module and the cooler, and a Xeon processor SL8P6.

Do you known the reference of the VRM and the cooler for ML350 G4p?

You need the Heatsink part number 366866-001
and the Processor power module (PPM) part number 347884-001. The PPM regulates the voltage that goes to the processor.

Do you known if I can just purchase a SL8P6, or if HP has special Xeon ?

I ask this, because for opteron 265, the an HP Proliant DL385 G1 rejected an opteron OSA265FAA6CB and need OST265FAA6CB.

This is the list of the Intel Xeon processors compatible with that server. All you need to keep in mind when upgradig a to a new processor is that both processor have to be identical. Regarding the steppings all you need to do before installing the new processor is to upgrade the BIOS ROM.

I found no french store with 382184-B21 in stock.
On Hp website, http://h20141.www2.hp.com/hpparts/lcl/FR/Search_Results.asp?
the item 382184-B21 is out of stock in each country I checked

By chance, we can order 366866-001 and 347884-001 in France (but they are out of stock in HP USA !).
We will shutdown a ML350 G4p and take a look at the exact processor reference (Intel SL8xx or SL7xx).
By purchasing from HP France, 366866-001
and 347884-001, and find the exact same Xeon processor, we must find a solution !

Hi,

Try the spare part numbers for the cpu's instead of the option numbers for the kits.

Please see attached image.

382184-B21 is the option kit for the 3.0Ghz CPU with 2Mb of L2 cache. This CPU is spare part number 383035-001 according to the spare part listing.

Where do you found the "system components" list and part number? This is very useful, and can be useful for other server.

Finally, I'll puchase processor power module and heatsink (347884-001 and 366866-001) from HP and the processor on another place.

We have checked on the server, and the processor is SL8P6.
I purchased a SL8P6 xeon on Ebay for 102 euro ( http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220236452466 ), currently 160 USD.

On http://www.sourcinghouse.co.uk/catalog/index.php?cPath=3&sort=3a&page=3 we found other SL8P6 for 123 GBP (150 EUR)

HP sell the CPU (383035-001) 418 EUR in France, and 569 USD in USA.

Pehaps the HP solution is more secure, but the SL8P6 xeon purchased out of HP is, like 383035-001, a chip build by Intel, and price is -very- lower.

The ML350 G4p Service and Maintenance guide has the spare part numbers for all serviceable items.

For other systems go to http://support.hp.com
Pick your country and then enter your product into the product field - example "ml350 g4p". Select the required model from the list which may include storage server variants.

Choose "manuals, guides etc" from the menu and then pick the service and maintenence guide from the list.

You should be able to obtain the service guides for all your Proliant models from here.
