What's the difference between internal SCSI controllers

I'm looking at the DL380 G2 and DL580 G2. The DL380 quick-specs say the internal controller is a Smart Array 5i and the DL580 quick-specs say the internal controller is a Smart Array 5i Plus. When I go to the DL580 link for more info about the internal controller I see the same pages I see when I look at the DL380 internal controller link.

Is there a difference between the controllers on the two servers?

TIA

Re: What's the difference between internal SCSI controllers

Both are Ultra3 controllers. Dual channel.
The DL580 G2 5i Plus has 64 MB battery backed cache, no external SCSI port. A card will be needed for any external SCSI connection. Also supports simplex/duplex drive cage.
The DL380 G2 is a dual channel. One internal, one external. 32 MB cache with no battery backed cache. No support for Duplexing.
I hope this helps. If not please let me know.
We are here for a good time, not a long time!

Yes! That helps a lot. You also answered my question about the internal disk cage in the two servers. The DL580 offers user selectable split or single bus and the DL380 only offers single bus.
thanks much.
