I bought 3 pcs 726536-B21 (HPE 9.5mm SATA DVD-ROM JackBlack Gen9 Optical Drive) for my new HPE 837826-421 (ML10 Gen9) servers which is the right model according to the server quick specification, but the optical drives cannot be instealled since there is an excessive gap in the bezel and no brackets behind! I suspect I am missing a HPE ML10 Gen9 Slim ODD Enablement Kit 836742-B21, but pictures of the kit show band cables and makes me really confused!
Whats really in the kit 836742-B21?

Re: Whats in a Gen9 Slim ODD Enablement Kit (836742-B21)
I have really searched the European part of internet for the "Gen9 Slim ODD Enablement Kit" (836742-B21) and it is either out of stock or on backorder almost everywhere. I also sent a request for quotation to a Swedish supplier and got the answer that it is no longer available from HPE!
It is no good situation when you can buy the HPE 837826-421 (ML10 Gen9) server and a HPE 726536-B21 (9.5mm SATA DVD-ROM JackBlack Gen9 Optical Drive) but no longer the installaion kit!
Is there a new alternative kit or is the only way now to build your own brackets?
I need an answer from HPE!

Re: Whats in a Gen9 Slim ODD Enablement Kit (836742-B21)
I don't have access to one of these systems, but looking at the quickspecs under unique options this is listed
HPE Unique
Options
HPE ML10 Gen9 Slim ODD Enablement Kit 836742-B21
NOTE: HPE ML10 Gen9 Slim ODD Enablement Kit is required if install ODD.
It is also listed under the Optical Drive section along with the two drive options

Re: Whats in a Gen9 Slim ODD Enablement Kit (836742-B21)
Yes I agree thats what the quick spec says, but it is a problem if HPE have cancelled production of Enablement kit 836742-B21 with no alternative kit available!

Re: Whats in a Gen9 Slim ODD Enablement Kit (836742-B21)
If HPE ML10 Gen9 Slim ODD Enablement Kit 836742-B21 no longer exists, it might work with HPE ML30 Gen9 G9 Slim Optical Disk Drive ODD Enablement Support Kit 820288-B21, if it is slightly modified? The DVD drives are centered laterally and vertically for both the servers, so it would probably work if the plastic front bezel is removed from the ML30 tray since ML10 has integrated bezel! Question is if the DVD drive would be correctly positioned depthwise? But that kan also be adjusted if not!
I may order one for test, if you say there will be no more ML10 ODD enablement kits!

SolutionSorry, I was replying to your original message where I assumed you were asking if you needed the enablement kit. This forum is supported by the user community, I suggest you call HPE support for information on how to obtain the kit or to find out if it has been discontinued

Re: Whats in a Gen9 Slim ODD Enablement Kit (836742-B21)
I can confirm that a HPE ML30 Gen9 Slim ODD Enablement Kit (820288-B21) is also working for HPE ML10 Gen9. I just had to remove the bezel from the ML30 kit which was very easy, and then it fits perfect in the ML10 tower with integrated bezel! I was never able to purchase the ML10 kit at a reasonable price, and this worked perfect for me!
