When will SAS 146g 15k rpm and 300g drives be released??

I have been holding off on buying about 20 DL380G5 servers for a few months now. If I knew it was going to be this long for the 15k 146g drives and 300g drives to be released I would have just bought 380G4's, but that is not an option anymore. Does anyone have any idea when they will be released? I need these servers. My channel partners have no idea, certainly someone here does

As far as I can tell, Seagate has not been able to produce anything but the 36GB and 73GB 15K 2.5" SAS drives.
300GB 15K and 10K is only produce in a 3.5" SAS drive
146GB 15K is 3.5 only, while the 10K is available in 2.5".

Comes down to data density, the tesh is not there yet.

Re: When will SAS 146g 15k rpm and 300g drives be released??

I guess I should have specified 2.5", not 3.5". Actually my channell partner told me yesterday he "heard" that it will not be until 2nd half 2008. If so, that is unacceptable, and quite honestly HP should NOT have moved to this technology (2.5" drives) until the channell was capable of producing drives that meet our needs. Come on now, 72g 15k rpm drive is the max capacity? Give me a break. That gives us a max raid5 capacity of ~500 gig on a 380G5 with 8 drives. Whereas, with the DL380G4, using 146g drives, I had a max raid5 capacity of 1024g using 6 drives. I could do 146g drives with 10k rpm, but performance is NOT good with these drives.

I concur. Hp should get their act together - it is a damn joke they can't supply 15K drives with capacity greater than 72GB on the SSF SAS drives. THEY MADE THE MOVE ONTO THIS!

I am holding back like you're in the purchase of these drives...it's a pain in the backside for us. AND YES there is a large difference in performance when comparing 15K to 10K drives as we run some pretty intensive databases on our HP gear.
