Which PCI-E video card can I use on the low profile x8 slots on a DL380 G5 server?
Hi,
I need help to choose a dual monitor video card to use in a DL380 G5 server.
Let me say that I would like to use this card on the PCI-E low profile slots on the motherboard (I need to leave free the slots on the cage for other cards).
I've seen that DL380 G5 have 2 PCI-E x8 low profile slots (one is used by the P400 controller and the other is free) and I've found ATI FireMV 2250 dual video card that could be good for my needs.
It's a low profile card, but there are 2 versions of the same card: the first one is a 1x PCI-Express and the second is a 16x PCI-Express.
My question is: on the 8x PCI-E slot which card do I have to use? x1 or x16?
Thanks for your help and sorry for my poor English.
If someone knows there are other dual monitor video cards that I can use on low profile slots, any suggestion is welcome.
thanks
Luca

Hi,
in a x8 PCi Express slot you can use a x1 PCI Express VGA card. (or a x4 or a x8 PCI Express VGA card)
also, a very good VGA card you can use is teh nVidia Quadro NVS 280.
bye.
