Which quad-core procs can I put into a DL380 G5??

We presently have a DL380 G5 with 2 Xeon 5150 processors.

Its motherboard part is 436526-001.

Can I put in a Xeon 54xx quad-core or only a Xeon 53xx quad-core??

If yes about the Xeon 54xx, what is the part number??

it is Quad-Core System Board which means It supports all Quad and Dual Core Procs

in the other hand when someone has a Dual Core System Board and wants to update to Quad that person needs not only needs to get a new Proc he needs also a New system Board

but this is not case you got it quad-core and Dual core capable

What level of performance increase do you expect to see? I've been searching but have not been successful in getting detailed information. It appears the gain will depend on whether the apps are multi-threaded.

I'm not expecting any huge performance gains, only the ability to run more VMs with more cores as I gradually add memory over time.

I now need to find out if we need thermal grease or not, none was included in the processor installation kit...
