Why my Win Serv 2012 std (hp ROK) does not get installed on my esxi 5.5.0?

Hi folks,

I am a begginer, so be patient with me please.

My company bought a proliant DL385p Gen 8 and it came with a windows server 2012 dvd media.

The media label says:

"Windows Server 2012 Recovery Media for Windows Server 2012 ROK Products for HP Proliant servers"

So I am trying to install the windows 2012 with this media in my Esxi 5.5.0, but when installation starts I recieve a message saying me tha the windows should be installed only in hp machines.

My doubt is that I am running hp customized esxi: VMware-ESXi-5.5.0-1746974-HP-5.72A.3-Jun2014.iso

Why my windows does not recognize that I am doing its installation on a hp machine?

How could I fix it? Could I download another windows image and activate with my key product?

That dvd you have, seems to be a customized version for that server (a recovery disc, that installs everything as factory default, like the hidden partition most notebooks (recovery partition))

So if you try to run it on a virtual machine, it won't work, you need a standard (generic) server iso, for it, and obviously your key will not work, since that key is for that specific product.

I don't think microsoft will change your key for a generic version, unless you have a volume license contract with them.

We had a similar issue here a while ago with one of the servers, and I simply stored the original ISO and use a volume license key with a standard server iso, legally I am still using the amount of servers purchased, just one of them is slightly different :)

Yes this is possible but you have to make a little adjustment inside VMware.

Win 2012 is not mention, but you can give it a try.
