Win 2003 R2 64 doesnt want to install on DL320 G5p
Hi all - I'm looking for some advice on a frustrating issue. I've a DL320 G5p with two SAS drives in a striped array. It has no floppy drive and currently has a CD drive attached. When I install Win 2003 R2 x86 all is well and installs with no issues, with or without the smartstart disk. However when I try to install Win 2003 R2 64 bit without Smartstart no disks are found. I assumed this was because the MS volume license disk doesn't have the correct drivers.
No problems I thought, I can just use the Smartstart disk to start the install and all was looking ok, I selected my OS from the Smartstart list, the 2003 64 bit disk is requested, it copies the required files, it reboots and then displays missing NTDRL and doesn't continue.
I've checked the smartstart disk and downloaded the 2003 64 bit version
8.30 (i think its listed as extended) and retried but same problem. So my options appear to be Slipstream the drivers or see if the HP USB floppy drive program works so that I can use a USB stick at the F6 Prompt and add the drivers in there. I'm running out of time to look at the two options and this seems to be a lot of effort when I'm sure it should automatically detect the correct drivers at install like the 2003 x86 did.
Has anyone else come across this problems or have any thoughts on this?
I've done a few google searches but not really seeing any similar issues from anyone else.
cheers
AO

Re: Win 2003 R2 64 doesnt want to install on DL320 G5p
If you are using the embedded controller which is the 4port SATA
Boot the server to the OS CD and when it ask you to press F6 then you upload from an external USB Floppy drive the driver for the controller, you can get it from this link:
HP 4/8 Internal Port SAS HBA with RAID and SCxxGe series HBA Driver for Windows Server 2003 x64 Editions
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=15351&prodSeriesId=3579703&prodNameId=3579737&swEnvOID=1113&swLang=8&mode=2&taskId=135&swItem=MTX-c89b0559b2e548519abccd79f4
or you can use the following application to create a bootable CD with the storage controller driver incorporated

Let me know if it works ...

Re: Win 2003 R2 64 doesnt want to install on DL320 G5p
Thanks for your response but that pretty much the options I listed which were available to me. Just by luck we found a spare usb floppy drive to save having to create the usb key drive or slipstreaming. I just found it strange that the 32 bit version has the drivers but not the 64 bit version.

Were you able to install the OS?
