Win SBS2008 - HP Proliant DL385G5
System config as follows:
Raid 1 / 2 x 72GB SATA
Raid 5 / 4 x 146 GB SATA
HP Smart Start v 8.15
HP Firmware update v 8.20
There are a couple of instal problemsL
1. When I try to install Windows SBS via Smart Start I get pipped at the post when it asks me to locate the image file on the DVD? I have no idea where to locate this file. Should I select flat files instead of an image file? If I select flat files, which directory do I point SmartStart to?
2. If I try to install windows directly (without going via smart start) the install is halted because it cannot locate the file: HPSSBEM.INI. I tried unplugging raid 5, thinking that having two logical drives might have been creating the problem, but it make no difference. Can anybody give me any other suggestions? Do I need to collapse the partitions so that there is only 1 logical drive? Will this change anything? Or do I have another issue.
Would be really grateful for the feedback as it gets a little frustrating trying to work through the combinations...

Re: Win SBS2008 - HP Proliant DL385G5
try with under 4GB dimms and only 2 sticks
see what happens if it installs update firmware and add rest of ram /sticks
let me know if this works for you too ensure you are using orig msoft cd

Re: Win SBS2008 - HP Proliant DL385G5
1.Use HP SmartStart 8.30, it have better compatibility with Win and less bugs. Choose "flat file" option when install Win with SmartStart CD, and no required to choose a directory if you have Win2008 DVD.
2.If you try to install Win directly, then you must copy drivers for RAID controller on USB flash drive for example, and point on it when Win asks.

Re: Win SBS2008 - HP Proliant DL385G5
As it turned out the problem was an easy fix as soon as I downloaded the latest smart start version 8.30. It was smooth sailing from there. What I really like about this version is you can select which raid you want to install the operating system on.
