This one has a Compaq SmartArray 3200 controller.
If so, how do I install Win 2k pro?

To install boot with OS CD,Provide Smart Array Controller Driver by pressing F6 when prompted and things should go well.
Post results when done.

Re: Windows 2000 professional on ProLiant 1600r?
Windows 2000 Professional Edition is not supported for use on ProLiant and ProSignia servers!!!!
The minimum requirements suggest that this server supports network operating systems only..
Hope this answers!!!!
Regards,
rmn

Re: Windows 2000 professional on ProLiant 1600r?
I guess this is further proof that, in computing, there are many answers...
RMN, I'm going to at least give Win2k Pro a try. I hesitate to cough up $US 200-800 on ebay for software for a machine that cost me $US 45, when I have a spare Pro CD lying around.
SPa - when the moment for F6 comes, where are these drivers? I've downloaded (but not yet burned) the SmartStart 5.5 image -- is it somewhere on this?

Solutionhttp://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/storage/us/download/17322.html
Also, remember to create a logical drive before going for installation.
To do that,Press F8 during post after the server initalizes Smart Array Controller.
Create the required Raid and Logical drive.
Extract the downloaded driver into a floppy, and provide at F6 prompt.

Re: Windows 2000 professional on ProLiant 1600r?
Tell you what, coming from consumer machines, these 10K SCSI disks on RAID 0 move mighty fast.
Thanks, all.
