Windows 2008 R2 cluster: is it ok to mix dl380 g7 and dl360p g8?

We currently have a 2-node Windows 2008 r2 cluster. Both nodes are dl380 g7. We are thinking of adding one more server into the cluster and looking at the newest dl360p g8. But I'm not sure if it'll be ok to have mixed server hardware in the same cluster.

Does anyone know if it's ok to do this? tks.

Hi Jason,

If it is a fail over cluster setup it is required to have similar hardware, eventhough if it is not a failover cluster is always advisable to have a similar setup

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc771404.aspx

Microsoft supports a failover cluster solution only if all the hardware components are marked as "Certified for Windows Server 2008 R2.

DL380 G7 and DL360p Gen8 being completely different generations and having different components staring from array controllers to nic controllers, I would not advise you to use these both under a cluster
