Windows 2008 Replacement

I am about to replace a 2003 sbs server os(live)(ML310 running since Aug 2008) with a 2008 sbs server test os installed on(ML310 latest spec). Can I just swap the raid 1 array drives from the 2008 machine into the older live machine and reboot, or do I have to image the 2008 and wipe the live machine with the created image? We need to retain the newer ml310. The Machines have identical hdd configurations and drive sizes.
