Windows 2008 SBS
PID is 470063-133. I wish to recover a Windows 2008 SBS system to it and use it as a backup for disaster recovery purposes.
I understand it will need at least 8gb memory and maybe bigger drives but I am getting conflicting inf0 as to whether Windows 2008 SBS will run on it.
an HP PDF is attached and page 9 indicates that it will work. a technical colleague says its 32 bit hardware and a 64bit OS will not work. Any answers gratefully appreciated.

Re: Windows 2008 SBS
windows 2008 on ML110 G2 is not supported officially by HP. however, it should work
you will not find the driver for storage controller while installing it... you need to try the windows 2003 64bit storage controller driver to make it work..
All the best!
thanks

Your model 470063-133:

No platform drivers for SBS 2008 either:

Last BIOS update was for W2K3 in 2005.

Re: Windows 2008 SBS
As per PDF you shared, it can be installed on ML110 G2 server.. only issue that I see is driver.. However, we have tested many such installation in our setup and made them work with little bit tweeking.
However, you may not get any support from HP in terms of driver or software as it is not offically supported on this platform.
what is the storage controller that you are using in this server...?
About your query about 32 bit h/w.. most of the proliant servers uses x86 architecture which is 32 bit... only processor is 64 bit in some servers... so it is not true 64 bit platform... 64 bit OS which is not specifically designed for 64 bit architecture can be installed on 32 bit platform with 32 bit performance.
HP itegrity, Alpha and some high end proliant servers are 64 bit...
Hope you are with me.
thanks

Re: Windows 2008 SBS
Controller is standard SATA on board chip for this model. I have 2 old sata drives orginally in raid mode on this server.

Re: Windows 2008 SBS
thanks for sharing the info..
You have 4 ports SATA Raid Controller (NON-hotplug ML110 G2) as per quickspecs
http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/12161_div/12161_div.html
ML110 G2 has lot issues with respect to driver during windows installation...
You need to integrate SATA RAID driver into OS..
check these articles
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=c01382037
http://bizsupport1.austin.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=c01382037тМй=en&cc=us&taskId=135&prodSeriesId=446009&prodTypeId=15351
Other option disable Raid from system bios.. install Windows 2008 it will be installed without any additional driver... now Manually add h/w driver in device manager
try this driver for windows 2008
HP Embedded SATA RAID Controller Driver for Windows Server 2003
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=15351&prodSeriesId=501887&prodNameId=3279679&swEnvOID=1113&swLang=8&mode=2&taskId=135&swItem=MTX-5cd722338c1647cab535160591
extract the cp007491.exe (583 KB) into a local folder and then use the "add hardware"-wizard to install these drivers. Choose "Yes, hardware is installed", scroll down to "add new hardware", choose manual selection, choose "SCSI- and RAID-Controller", choose "have disk", point to the folder in which you extracted the drivers until you see the inf-file, and so on
reboot the server, enable the raid and see whether it goes through..
thanks
