Windows 2k 1600 server

Hi,

Right i think this might test you all cos i've had a look most of the forums that might relate to the problem but it hasn't help steer me in the right direction.

The problem started with a power cut and the 1600 proliant server went down, on the reboot one of the 5 4gig original SCSI hard drives within a RAID 5 configuration failed. We replaced all of the hard drives with 18gig IBM SCSI hard drives, that were laying about, i couldn't find any information about the hard drives other than the model number: IC35L018UCD210-0.
We managed to installed windows 2k server edition with a array configuration of 2 hard drives in a RAID 1 configuration, and the other 3 in a RAID 4 configuration, windows was installed to the RAID 1 confiuration. As soon as it installed and booted it died before we managed to log on, after that it never booted again, returning with the blue screen of death, IRQ equal or less than.
At this point we tried another reinstall, but it has never managed to even get to the start of the install after the first reboot. Now we have noticed an error message "SCSI Port X Drive ID X is not stamped for monitoring".

We have not managed to find anything about this error, but it is our only lead to why windows 2k server will not install. Any information about the error would be greatfully received.
At a guess i would say it is that the hard drives do not support monitoring, but i do not have a clue about monitoring or the hard drives.

We have updated all of the firmware to the lastest versions.

Thanks for any help about the error message or any possiblities why windows might not install.

John

Re: Windows 2k 1600 server

Hi,

How did you install w2k... direct from the CD or via SmartStart ?

You may find that if you install w2k using the assisted install from the SmartStart CD that you get a bit further as it will load drivers specific to the 1600. You will however have to get hold of a relevant version. IIRC, the 1600 will need to use version 5.5 or lower.

Re: Windows 2k 1600 server

hi,

SCSI Hard drives are continuosly monitored for PFA & health status by SCSI /RAID controllers. it seems that your hard drives are not supported by your SCSI / RAID controller , that's why it is not able to recognise them for PFA & health monitoring. This might also barring to install W2K on this server.

Re: Windows 2k 1600 server

Hi,

Thanks for the replies, i've managed to get windows 2k installed and working, i ran the proliant support pack to update all of the drivers to the curretn 2k drivers but i noticed that there was still one driver that was fully installed and set up correctly. The driver that is causing the warning is Intel 82371AB/EB PCI to USB Universal Host Controller. I just wanted to know any information if any one has experinced the problem.

The install of windows 2k went smoothly after updating all the firmware possible, and using the smart start cd v.5.4.

Thanks for all the help, any ideas about the lastest problem would be appreciated.
