Windows Server 2000 and SP4
had the BSOD crash cycle at the logo screen until I found it was the Network Cards..(both) causing it..
If I boot in Safe Mode and disable then boot, activate one of the cards, then reboot its OK for a few hours or min.. then crashes again
this is a Proliant ML 530 with a 100 and a Gig card..1gig Ram and a Raid 5 scsi
if I disable the cards the Servers stable..
I have tried reinstalling the cards, moving the cards, upgrading the drivers, reinstalling SP4...
all 111 hotfixes
yet all to no avail..
Still BSOD's with
KMODE_EXECPTION_NOT_HANDLED
IRQL_NOTLESS_OR_EQUAL
0x1E
and many others
The server is a DC, what would happen if I put in the Server CD and reinstalled with winnt32.exe, I know on a workstation it keeps the settings and resets most of the stuff back to the original install... would this work with a server with AD ?

Re: Windows Server 2000 and SP4
After you applied the SP4 for W2K and all other hot fixes you must be prompted to reboot. Now before you rebooted did you apply the Support pack for Windows from HP?? I am sure the ans would be No. What happens is every time any MS update or service pack is applied it overwrites the Server's proprietory drivers and that would prevent it from booting normally. Now what you need to do is apply the latest support pack from our site and see if that fixes your problem. Here is the link just in case you don't have it:

Please let me know how you make out.

Re: Windows Server 2000 and SP4
I downloaded the Service Pack...
tried to install it but the Proliant BSOD'd before the install had finished...
tried to do it again but the Proliant BSOD'd on the reboot
downloaded the updated driver for the NC 31xx card and it held for 12 hours before BSODing
tried to do the same for the NC 61xx card but this did not stop the BSODing
so no such luck for the NC 61xx card which I really need to have operational
and having a couple of hours life with the NC 31xx card is stressing me out...

Re: Windows Server 2000 and SP4
Have you tried loading the support pack in the safe mode?? Also bring your RAM below a gig and try it. Just leave one NIC in the system and see how it works.

Re: Windows Server 2000 and SP4
Proliant ML530
thanks for the advice, but I took the ram under 1gb, and played around with the network cards but i still got the BSOD's
I tried to install the service pack in safe mode with networking but it kept on saying that
"connection cannot be made to server"
"access to the target computer was denied...
but I am on the server where i want the SP to be installed ?
any ideas
