Windows Server 2008 R2 Cluster crash after opening HP Network Configuration Utility

Hi there,

I'm new to this forum and just have an urgend question to you.

Yesterday we had big trouble with two HP ProLiant DL380p Gen8 Servers.
Both server were installed with the SmartStart DVD 8.30. This was done 3 or 4 years ago. The servers have installed Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise and configured as a FileServer Cluster. Everything works fine so far.
Yesterday morning I did a short review of the configuration from the network interfaces. To do that I just opened the HP Network Configuration Utility (NCU). Till I click on the Icon in the task bar, the cluster service failed. In the event log I saw many entries about lost network addresses of the cluster.
Could someone tell me why this happens? How could it be that if I just open the NCU the cluster service crashes?
Does anyone have similar issues with MS cluster and the NCU?

Any comment/answer to this topic would be very nice and helpful.

Thanks,
tom

Hi
Before all the SmartStart 8.30 not is supported to this server, is used on Proliant Servers G3, G4 but taking into consideration that has used this CD I recommend for you update the version of the Drivers and Firmware more new.

Use the Service Pack for Proliant 2015.06 or 2015.10, bellow links:
Service Pack for ProLiant (SPP) Version 2015.06.0
http://h17007.www1.hpe.com/us/en/enterprise/servers/products/service_pack/spp/index.aspx?version=2015.06.0

Service Pack for ProLiant (SPP) Version 2015.10.0
http://h17007.www1.hpe.com/us/en/enterprise/servers/products/service_pack/spp/index.aspx

Mount this ISO on the S.O and access the directory (cd/dvd drive)\hp\swpackages and execute the file hpsum.bat and follow with this update.

follow SPP User guide link:

Re: Windows Server 2008 R2 Cluster crash after opening HP Network Configuration Utility

Hi,

thank you very much for this information. Unfortunately I didn't install both server in the past but I have to find a solution to fix the problem.

For the moment I would recommend to reinstall both server with the IP (Intelligent Provisioning) tool.

But before I will discuss it with my team manager I have another short question.

I found out that the PSP 9.20.0.0 is installed on both server. I did this with a quick search in the EventLog and the EventCode 400. Is it possible to verify that the servers are really installed with the SmartStart CD/DVD and with which version? I couldn't find any entry in this forum to identiy this.

Thanks again for your help.

Kind regards
