Wondering if my DL 380 G5 memory temperature is high or not

Hi all!

I have a 2U DL 380 G5 with 16 gigs of RAM. The temperature of the RAM is always 70-77° Celsius, which is around 168° Farenheit. My 2 CPUs run at 40° Celsius.

Is the memory temperature considered hot or normal?

I appreciate your help.

Vitaly.

Yes; that is hot.  You should look for obstructions inside the chasis (cable routing, failed or failing fan, dust, etc.)  Are you using HP DIMMS with heat disipaters attached?  Have you applied the latest Bios (newer bios can apply better power management and less heat produced)

This is a reading from one of my hotter (out of datacenter) DL360s:

        Location        Status        Reading        Thresholds
Temp 1:        I/O Board Zone        Ok        53C        Caution: 65C; Critical:70C
Temp 2:        Ambient Zone        Ok        31C        Caution: 40C; Critical:45C
Temp 3:        CPU 1        Ok        36C        Caution: 95C; Critical:100C
Temp 4:        CPU 1        Ok        36C        Caution: 95C; Critical:100C
Temp 5:        Power Supply Zone        Ok        43C        Caution: 60C; Critical:65C
Temp 6:        CPU 2        Ok        36C        Caution: 95C; Critical:100C
Temp 7:        CPU 2        Ok        36C        Caution: 95C; Critical:100C

Make sure the inlet temp of the air you are giving the server has adiquate cooling in the rack!

Enjoy!
