Xeon E5 1650v3 with ML150

Hi,

Can i swap my 2609v3 for a 1650v3 if i don't want to use dual CPUs?

Does ML150 support that CPU and can i use the passive heatstick that are mounted on 2609v3?

You failed to mention which generation of server (Gx?).

Here is a list of ML150 support pages. Select your version, then click on the Manuals tab and search for the "Maintenance and Service Guide". That will have a section listing the supported processors, typically under the "Physical and Operating Specifications" section.

Re: Xeon E5 1650v3 with ML150

I have checked the "Maintenance and Service Guide" but can't find anything about supporting 1650v3.

But the ML110 supports 1650v3 and then the ML150 should support it to?

They both use the same chipset C610.

It supports dual 2660v3 than it would be able to handle on 1650v3, shouldnt it?

Re: Xeon E5 1650v3 with ML150

Some features may not be supported. For eample, the 1650v3 adds Hyperthreading and Turbo-Boost. Also, the 2609v3 has 2 QPI links while the 1650v3 has none (QPI (Quick Path Interconnect) links are a high speed, point-to-point interconnect bus between the processor and chipset.) That raises some concern. Supported processots are the 2603, 2630L, 2650L, 2609, 2650, 2620, 2630, 2640, and 2660 (all v3). I would not expect the 1650 to be supported unless you can get confirmation from HP suppoert or someone who has successfully tested it with a ML150G9.

While the ML110G9 lists the 1603 and 1620 (with jacket), it does not list the 1650v3 as being supported.

The 2609v3 is rated at 85W but the 1650v3 consumes 140W. The notation for 1603 and 1620 "with jacket" indicates that some extra hardware is required for cooling.

Re: Xeon E5 1650v3 with ML150

Hi,

Thanks for the information :)

I checked the ML110 G9 user guide and it says that ML110 supports the 1650v3 but you will have to use a extra fan for cooling.

But if i would like to get this confirmed by HP, where can i find a email adress sutible for this case?

The Quickspecs for the ML150 Gen9 do not list any E5-1600 series as supported processors. The Quickspecs for the ML110 Gen9 have a note that states any systems using an E5-1600 processors requires an optional cooling kit to be added
