a hardware problem with HP Proliant Servers with E200 SmartArray controller
Recently I have read that HP Proliant Servers with E200 SmartArray controller hosting MS Exchange due to a hardware problem with the E200 card cause MS Exchange to crash.
Do you have more information on this? Would be grateful for your answer.

Re: a hardware problem with HP Proliant Servers with E200 SmartArray controller
there are some known issues with the E200 performance.
I suggest you to:
- update storport driver: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/932755/
-update the firmware of the SAS-harddisks:

Re: a hardware problem with HP Proliant Servers with E200 SmartArray controller
There can be various reasons for the crash;
I don't think its a "KNOWN ISSUE" or a "COMMON ISSUE"
As pointed out by DMS, there are a couple of E200 known issues.
Thanks.
Hello DMS,
Please restrain from posting IQ or SAW links in forums. Its only mean for INTERNAL USE;
Also, Posting the contents of "HP RESTRICTED" Documents on web is a violation. Link has been requested to be removed.
:)

Re: a hardware problem with HP Proliant Servers with E200 SmartArray controller
check you HDD Firmware:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?locale=en_US&objectID=c01186030
You should check the controller firmware and the version of the storport driver.
Hope this helps.
Best regards,
Patrick

Re: a hardware problem with HP Proliant Servers with E200 SmartArray controller
Do the following to fix the problem:
1. update e200 fw to 1.72
2. update the storport as dms told you
3. update the HDDs (as dms adviced)
4. make sure you install the sas/sata drivers for e200, actual version is 6.10.x.x
This should fix the problem.

Comments from ITRC MODERATOR in dms post
" "Edited to comply with ITRC Guidelines!"
"Note! Posting of a Restricted Internal Document is an offense that could result in steps being taken" "
As a responsible contributor to ITRC & HP, I will repeat this to anyone who does not comply with ITRC guidelines... as many times as it needs. Y do u take offense ? Peace.
;-) Cheers !

Re: a hardware problem with HP Proliant Servers with E200 SmartArray controller
About the problems - I want to say 2 additional things.
1. it is NOT a hardware problem (what the title says)
2. e200 and exchange is a bad idea, as Karlo said. But it should work without freezes after the updates.

Re: a hardware problem with HP Proliant Servers with E200 SmartArray controller
Before we spend money on the upgrade I need more information, which I was hoping to get here.
Anything that says: no it is not like that or yes it is like that would be good.
