adaptec 2940 scsi controller

when i try to load the 2940 driver on boot the compaq server hangs
with the message about 3rd party software, is there a secret to why compaq doesn't like novell 2940 drivers???????????

Contact Adaptec , Compaq does not support 3rd party hardware .
