adding a raid controller to a ML370 G3
Hi... can anyone tell me if this is possibly.
got a ml370 G3 with hot plug backplane attached to the inbuilt scsi contoller on the motherboard. windows 2003 server installed with software mirroring via 2 disks.
If i installed a 641 raid controller and attached the back plane to this... would the current windows install contolled by software mirroring still boot and work.... ??
would windows pick up the new raid controller ok ??

Re: adding a raid controller to a ML370 G3
Hi,
no that will not work. As soon as you create an array using the 641, the controller writs RAID config information to the disks, overwriting sectors at the start of ths disk and destroying the data on them.
You need to backup/reinstall/restore.
Regards,
Stephen

Re: adding a raid controller to a ML370 G3
I guessed that would happen if i created an array... on these disks. I was only going to create an array on some new disks not the exiting software mirrored pair... i was going to leave them alone...
so would the existing software mirrored pair still be ok and boot ?

Re: adding a raid controller to a ML370 G3
you want to use this new array for data and leave the other one for OS right?
if I got it
there should be no problems it's matter that your server recognize that new controller installed using ORCA or ACU
