adding new disk on RAID1

 Hi All,

we have HP Proliant DL 380 G7 server, currently we have size problem on one of the server, the server contain 2 SAS 300GB HDD with two partition RAID1, our exchange server 2010 on windows 2008 server is running on that server. my question is can we add new disks while system is running (hot swap) and want to create new partition of these new disks, will it not effect on our current OS and RAID1?

Thanks

Ali

Re: adding new disk on RAID1

As far as I know, you can add the drives for a new array with the system booted. You will need to use the Array Configuration Utility within Windows to configure the drives for RAID. They will then be accessible via Disk Management so that you can add your partitions and format ready for use. What you could do is to move the data from the second partition to the new volume and then expand the size of first partition on the original array into the space created by moving the data to the new array. You would have to reassign the drive letters and it may also require services to be stopped while you perform this action.
