array controller

We're looking to upgrade the integrated array controller to a Smart Array 4200 controller, are there any special issues of concern?

Re: array controller

The only issue I have run into with upgrading to the Smart 4200 controller is with the configuration. System was a DL380, 640MB RAM, using integrated controller and a Smart 4200 controller at the same time.

When trying to configure system it would lock up in the ACU and ADU Utilities. The problem was with the configuration of the system. It would not allow you to configure the expansion box with this specific configuration.

Compaq informed me that I needed to remove some memory and add it back in after the system was loaded. The specific configuration would lock up with the Smart Start Utilities. All worked fine after removing one 128MB DIMM and configured machine with 512MB.

Good Luck

Re: array controller

It all depends on what your current hard drive and controller configuration is. What is your current hardware configuration you are upgrading from? If you are going from an existing SmartArray controller that is a recent model to the 4200 model, follow the upgrade procedures in the SmartArray 4200 user guide that came with the controller. You can also download and the user guide from this web address.
