Re: batterh backed cache forRAID controller

Karlo,

Thanks for the link, so you reckon if I update the drivers, that should make any difference ??

What else can I do to improve the HDD performance ???

Re: batterh backed cache forRAID controller

I don't have all the information in my mind right now (I can get it tomorrow)

but I remember there was an issue with p400 controller and the workaround was update firmware (done), driver (link above) and I think there was something else (that's what I say I can check tomorrow)

talking about megas what is the speed? have any info about it?

regards

Re: batterh backed cache forRAID controller

I mean when you copy files what is the speed? megabytes? I see write is low very low but what is the real speed you are getting?

Re: batterh backed cache forRAID controller

I don't copy files, we load files to the db from flat files and when I look at the performance tab the HDD is thru the roof

Re: batterh backed cache forRAID controller

so

what about when you copy files between controllers? or between logical drivers same results?

I ask this since I am not database expert so I really did not get this "we load files to the db from flat files"...

Re: batterh backed cache forRAID controller

The files are copied from one logical drive to another but still the HDD are hit hard.

Re: batterh backed cache forRAID controller

Hi,

i don't understand what are you talking about.
First, you must better to explain mentioned situation.
If you have DB maybe problem isn't in logical drives. Maybe you don't have enough physical memory?

Kind regards

Re: batterh backed cache forRAID controller

Sorry,
Maybe I shoudl explain. We have Oracel 10.2.0.4 db which reads large flat files and loads data into a temporary table and then does some aggregation of the data and then loads them to another table.
I have 4G of RAM and have allocated about 4.5 to the db and have about 1.7G free for the server.
The db does not show much load but when the flat files are read and loaded to the db, the HDD are taking a lot of hit.
I hope this makes it a bit clear on what I wanted to say.

Re: batterh backed cache forRAID controller

so basically only in that activity the speed is slow when there is no DB activity speed(write) is fine?
