Re: combine two logical drives

Hello,

This is not possible.

You have to take data backup first.

Delete and re-create the raid (logical drive) again.

Re: combine two logical drives

Hello Sanjeev,

Greetings for the day!

Your response is very clear i.e extending the logical drive is not possible.

I need you input on my below though

1. Is it possible to delete one logical drive and space available from it could be extended to other logical drive (in my case c drive as it is almost full) using HP array configuration utility.

2. If option 1 doesnot work, can I take a complete backup of the server, format existing and restore it on same server with reconfiguring RAID 5 with single logical drive.

I am facing issues on c: drive (Operating System drive) on my production servers which is running out of space.

Your or HP Forks you input will be highly apprecaited.

Thanks & Regards,

Paresh

Re: combine two logical drives

Hello,

I would suggest you take the complete data backup.

After that delete and recreate the logical drive again.

Please let me know if you have any quires.

Re: combine two logical drives

Hello Rajeev,

Thank you for yor swift response.

This is already clear to me to take a backup. But I didnt get answer how to restore this backup. As said I am facing issue with production server so what I do it is 100% reliable within short duration of time.

So what do you recommend delete all logical drive >> create only one logical drive with no partition on it >> and then restore the backup? Is it what do you meant?

Thanks & Regards,

Re: combine two logical drives

Hello,

I didn't get the answer on how to restore this backup.

How you will take data backup.

In tape drive or another storage box.( depend on your data size)

For example: If you take date backup from the tape drive. Then you can restore from tape media.

So what do you recommend delete all logical drives>> create only one logical drive with no partition on it >> and then restore the backup? Is it what do you meant?

This is up to you or your requirement.

How many physical hard drives are using.

Most of the customer does like as below.

Create 1 logical drive as raid 1  with 2 Physical hard disks for OS

Create 2 logical drives with the rest of the hard disk.

Now depend on you.

Please let me know if you have any quires.

Re: combine two logical drives

Hello Sanjeev,

Thank you and appreciate once again for your swift response.

We are having 3 harddisk, 600 GB each, Raid 5 configuration (so usuable space 1200 GB), single array with 3 logical drive

disk 0 - 100 GB (C:)

disk 1- 600 GB (d:)

disk 2- 500 GB (e:)

My C drive is almost full, if i continue my servers could crash anytime.

I am planning to take image backup of server using acronics, So if I take image backup with the existing configuration. will I be able to restore on a same server with only one logical drive (instead of having 3 logical drive) on signal array?

In my original message, i was also asking if i delete one of the logical drive, say disk 2 so 500 GB space will be free can i use this space to extent my logical drive disk0 (Currently I see option to delete logical drive but no option to extend logical drive)

Please suggest.

Thanks & Regards,

Paresh

Re: combine two logical drives

Hello Paresh,

You have shared the logical disk information from the OS.

But hardware prospective have different configurations.

For that "I am planning to take an image backup of the server using acronics, "

I can not say,I would request you involve your OS vendor for more clarification.

For the investigation or check the hardware health status,

I would suggest, you have to log a proper case with HPE and share the appropriate logs for further analysis.
