cooler for HP ProLiant DL385 G1

Hello,
I've HP ProLiant DL385 G1 with one cpu.

I want add a second CPU.
The HP kit (cpu+cooler) seem out of stock (at least in France)

I can purchase an opteron 265 from AMD, but I also want a cooler compatible
with HP ProLiant DL385 G1 case and motherboard.

Do you known if cooler need to be HP specific, or if I can just purchase a
socket 940 cooler ? and do you have a suggestion for a cooler ?

Re: cooler for HP ProLiant DL385 G1

thank you a lot for all these info.

Just a confirmation : 383337-001 is nammed " Processor power module (PPM) - 12VAC, 105A - For use with 2.6GHz processor"

I suppose we can use it with processor 1.8Ghz (which just need less power than 2.6 Ghz).

So we have now just to buy the 383337-001 and 378910-001 from HP France with the link you gave here, and an opteron 265 at any AMD reseller.

I've now another idea: do you think the ProLiant DL385 G1 accept opteron 285 cpu ?

If I buy one 383337-001, one 378910-001, two opteron 285 (2.6 Ghz), and I remove (and sell on Ebay) the old opteron 265, I can upgrade from one Opteron 165 1.8 Ghz to two opteron 285 2.6 Ghz ?

regards, thank you a lot for tips and info

Read at the last message : "I can upgrade from one Opteron 265 1.8 Ghz to two opteron 285 2.6 Ghz" instead

Re: cooler for HP ProLiant DL385 G1

I've just received the HP kit (ordered with your link), with cooler and power regulator.

I wait an opteron 265 I purchased on ebay, I'll let you known when I'll install them !

Now I'm working to have the maximum amount of memory under Windows 2003 server 32 bits

Re: cooler for HP ProLiant DL385 G1

I received the package and an AMD Opteron.

Unfortunatelly, at boot, the system first display the two Opteron 265, then

"Unsupported processor Deteted in Socket 2" and the system halt.

I checked carrefully, and the first processor was a OST265FAA6CB and the processor I bought an OSA265FAA6CB

The difference is processor power
(OSA = "standard", OST = 68W? )
