cpuinfo Proliant 380 g4

cpuinfo Proliant 380 g4

We´ve executed al cat /proc/cpuinfo in a HP Prolian 380 G4 with 2 processors dualcore 3.60 GHz under OS Suse LES.

Strangely, this is the log we got:

I don´t understand, why the "cpuinfo" identifies 4 processors single core instead 2 processors dual core, as it should really be?

Appretiated!

Re: cpuinfo Proliant 380 g4

Hi,
Almost all Operating systems including Suse Linux will detect dual core CPUs as seperate CPUs. This output is normal nothing to worry.

Confirmed!
The difference between ordinary and extraordinary, is that little extra.

Re: cpuinfo Proliant 380 g4

hi
its not amporatant
os detected every one of core
if you have one quad core cpu .os detected four cpu.
best regards

Re: cpuinfo Proliant 380 g4

The Guys who have replied so far are all correct, its HyperThreading on a G4 though, not separated cores (the G4 didnt use procs with 'true' seperate cores)

Id be a little more worried about the fact that the CPUs are reported as being:

model name : Intel(R) Xeon(TM) CPU 3.60GHz

but are not running full speed:

cpu MHz : 2800.000

Not played with SLES for a LONG time, so couldnt say for certain, but I'd definitely check to see if it is doing some speed-stepping type operation to power save on the server....looks like you aren't running it at full speed...

You can switch off HT in the BIOS if you want BTW...then you will just see 2 CPUs....

thanks
