defrag windows 2003 systems

Someone told me that you should NOT defrag windows 2003 active directory systems running on HP proliant servers with hardware raid 5 and raid 1. Please enlighten me.

Re: defrag windows 2003 systems

hi,

read this KB from microsoft:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;312067&Product=winsvr2003

other the issue stated in the KB about defragmentation, it does not have issue with RAID 5 or RAID 1.

maybe u like to ask what exactly the "someone" told u about.

regards.

Hi,

Aren't you performing the offline active directory database defrag (this is different from Windows level file system defrag). Microsoft active directory tools will help you there. Of the top of my mind take a look at ntdsutil utility to defrag ur AD database if you think its heavily fragmented.
