disc swap between HP DL380G6 and DL385G6

hi,
is it possible/supported to swap discs between these servers? they have slightly different controllers (P410i versus P410)

the raid config and disc capacity also differs between the hosts:
host1 : 2x300 in 1mirror
host2 : 4x73 in 2mirrors
is the raid config stored on the disc or memory?
is there an 'import' function or similar? or will it work it out itself

thoughts or experiences appreciated...

The P410 and P410i are identical controllers. The only difference is the P410i is embedded on the system board whereas the P410 is a PCIe card.

The raid configuration is stored on the disks so you can move the disks form one server to another and connect them to same or similar controllers.

No "import" functions, the controller will read the new disks and will recognize the raid configuration on them and will make the raid array and logical disks available.

As with any major disk work, run one or two backups before you move the disks.

Is there any OS Involved? I know that for example windows can have problems migrating between AMD and INTEL CPU's. And the differens between the motherboards and chipset could also be a problem.

But that's on Operating system level.

yes, good point about the O/S. i'm planning on doing this with Solaris

obviously major testing involved as various parts of the driver database will get confused due major differences with pci id's etc.. between the two server types...
