dl 140 g2 ilo not working

Hi,

We have a cluster of 60 DL 140 G2 nodes which has been working for the last 3 years. Recently I activated ilo in the side band nick in all of them (never used ilo on them before apart from a couple of systems).

In 4 systems ilo is not working. I am able to login, I get the welcome screen, and then:

In the other 56 systems ilo is working fine.

Tried ilo firmware and bios update, and nothing changed.

Any ideas?

TIA

iLO and Lights-Out 100 are not the same product. The DL140 has Lights-Out 100 (LO100).

I haven't worked with one of those systems in ages, but it appears your getting into the Windows EMS console. When in EMS mode I think ESC+( exits back to iLO, or LO100

various text based commnads work while using the Windows EMS console.

Re: dl 140 g2 ilo not working

Than you for your reply. Yes indeed the EMS seems to be involved. However Esc-q and Esc-( did not help.

Difference between a normal lo100 and the troubled one

Normal:

Type 'HELP' for options. Type 'QUIT' to return to console.

I disabled eveyrthing EMS related in BIOS but no difference. Couldn't find any command to use either.

Anything else I could try?

Thank you for your time.

Re: dl 140 g2 ilo not working

Looks like I am "lucky": I have the same problem with a recently purchased DL 160 G5. I think I will call HP support...

Re: dl 140 g2 ilo not working

Sorry for taking so long to answer.

HP support was not able to immedaitely explain the behavior I observed, but pointed me to a manual
titled
"HP ProLiant Lights-Out 100 Remote Management
User Guide
For HP ProLiant ML110 G4, ML115 G1, DL140 G3, DL145 G3, and ML150 G3 Servers
Part Number 419106-008
October 2008 (Eighth Edition)"

In page 19 this manual states

HP has worked with key industry partners within Distributed Management Task Force, Inc. to define an
industry-standard set of commands. The SMASH suite will standardize manageability interfaces for
servers. The Lights-Out 100 remote management processor implements the command set defined in the
Server Management Command Line Protocol Specification, 1.00 Draft. The CLP replaces the simple CLI
that was released previously and is no longer supported.

In other words, the cli I used to know is no longer available after more recent revisions of ilo. It is replaced by the CLP syntax, which is cumbersome but gets the job done. Password changes seem to be possible only via web interface though.
