dl380 disk on dl580

I need to move an application to a new server but the app. resides on a disk of a DL380. I am looking to move this disk to a new DL580. Has anyone done this? I am sure I will run into driver issues on the 580. I am trying to make this transition smooth for the data owner so they do not have to reinstall the applications and migrate data off the old disk.

What kind of issues would I run into if I simply moved the 380disk to the 580disk and attempted to boot? Will it work?

If not, what are my options?

Thanks.

What generation of servers do you have?
If both use the same array controller, than after disk moving application (system) should work on new server.

Re: dl380 disk on dl580

1. If both your Server use Integrated smart Array Controller that would be easier
Make sure Firmware is Up to date or at least same as at first one, you can make them identical use Diskette #1
http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/14694.html

2. If you planning to use Different Controller than Integrated you might need firstly to install controller to initial server (do not connect any cable, just Card in empty slot) and let system see it correctly and Install Latest drivers
http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/index.html

3. Restart Server and Access to F10 Change Boot controller Order to new Card and Connect SCSI cables to it or see step 5

4. Next what you need to erase all from Target Server ├в no Drives should be connected to it
http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/17918.html

5. Move Optional Card with Drives to Target Server and connect Cable to it.

6. Boot from SCU diskette 1 and keep ready 2nd (there will be no needs for 3rd and 4th) Run system partition update from hard disk, make sure boot controller set correctly and good to go

7. Recommendation to keep system ROM up to date

Re: dl380 disk on dl580

Thanks Andrzej & KOV. I'm working with a 5i(DL380) and a 6i(DL580) so I will have to use KOV's procedure.

Thank you for your prompt response. I really appreciate it.

Now that's much much better. Thanks KOV. I'll try this in a couple of days. I have to make sure I have restorable backups of these disks I want to move.
