expanding storage - which is right?
I?ve got 4*18.2Gb drives (smart array 3200) in RAID 5, want to expand to 36GB drives.
I?ve seen stated that i could exchange one drive at a time and wait for the rebuild, then I would get the extra space.
In other places I,ve seen people say that inserting the larger drives in the raid will work but that they will only act as 18.Gb drives.
Which is it????
TIA //Mike

Re: expanding storage - which is right?
It will function as an 18.2gb drive. All drives in an array will be recognized as being the size of the smallest physical drive in the array.

Re: expanding storage - which is right?
Does this mean that once all the drives where replaced the Array would auto-upgrade all disks to the new smallest size, i.e. 36GB?
