external array - smart 2DH pci
As type shown in disk manager ( red oval with white + sign ) , Windows 2000 cannot determine disk type for external drives
so not configurable.
All server drives are configurable.
recommended system Rompaq, array controller Rompaq, and disk Rompaqs applied.
Iinternal drive controller and external drive controller are the same, Smart-2DH.
SmartStart v4.21 configures all drives without a hitch.
SmartStart v4.70 stops at SmrtStrt.exe load because some dll file missing.
Windows 2000 loads onto server just fine.
Windows 2000 refuses the new drivers for 2000 - It says that the cqqarray driver is fine after looking at the new driver.

Re: external array - smart 2DH pci
With all drives configured by the Array Configuration Utility, then the operating system should see the drives correctly. If not, then there may be a need to update system ROM, controller ROM, or hard drive firmware. If all these components are up-to-date, as stated, then there seems to be a problem with the driver and the operating system communicating. By updating to the latest service pack for the operating system and the latest firmware for the controller, you should be able to bypass this problem. Please bear in mind that this is still a relatively new operating system/controller combination at the time of your message. As to the problem with SmartStart 4.70, it is possible that you have a bad disk. Try another, more recent version of SmartStart. If you are still having issues, please contact Technical Support at 1-800-OK-COMPAQ. A technician will be more than happy to assist.
